Questions & answers

Before you buy

Everything homeowners ask about installing and sizing a MRCOOL system.

Talk to a certified pro →

What does a heat kit do?

A heat kit adds electric resistance heat inside the air handler. It supplies backup or supplemental heat when outdoor temperatures fall below what the heat pump can carry on its own.

Will it fit my air handler?

Heat kits are matched to specific air handler families and capacities. Compare the model in these specifications against your air handler before ordering.

Who should install it?

A licensed electrician or HVAC technician. Heat kits tie into high voltage wiring and usually need a breaker sized to the kit.

Which kW rating should I choose?

The right kW depends on your climate, the size of the home and how much backup heat the system needs. An HVAC pro can size it from your load calculation.
